The Lift Boy Movie Review: This Slice-Of-Life Emotion Film Will Remain With You

Director: Jonathan Augustin

Cast: Moin Khan, Nyla Masood, Saagar Kale, Neha Bam, and others

Ratings: 4 stars

They say dreams keep everyone alive and to have one gives a reason to live even more beautifully. Writer-director Jonathan Augustin bring an emotional tale of unusual relationships with The Lift Boy, which has a big  share of sweet moments, even though it could have been about five minutes shorter in the first half, which is working under the radar to establish the emotional tapestry of behaviour and relationships

Raju Tawade (debutant Moin Khan), a lower-middle-class, English-speaking Maharashtrian boy, lives with parents Krishna Tawade (Saagar Kale) and Lakshmi (Neha Bam). Aspires to become a writer, but  is forced to become an engineer to fulfil his parents’ wish. His life  suddenly turns  upside down when he has to serve in  his father’s job as a lift boy in a posh building after his Baba suffers a heart attack.

There, he meets Maureen D’souza (Nyla Masood)a rich widow who owns the posh building and stays alone in a sprawling apartment after her husband Colin’s death. Gradually, Raju befriends her along with other residents. To his surprise, Maureen promises him to teach engineering drawing, which has been the one single subject he has repeatedly failed to clear. As he works hard for the first time to study under her guidance, Fate, through a  friend tempt him with other options. What happens next forms the resolution that the first half had been  scripting the setup for.

The Lift Boy is loosely based on a real story set in Mumbai. Director Jonathan Augustin delivers an engaging tale that elevates your emotions and mood,  and  also leaves you teary-eyed the process. In the end, the slightly slowish set up of the first half is forgotten, and the comes out as a sure shot winner.

Jonathan has pleasingly weaved a heart warming story alongside the primary plot. It has been shot aesthetically — especially the skyline of Mumbai and the sunsets.

Debutant Moin Khan is very good for a  first-time performance. The one who steals the show is surely Nyla Masood. She is raw, real and extremely cinvincing. You will definitely take her character Maureen D’souza back home. Rest of the entire secondary star cast does justice in their respective roles, particularly Raju’s father, played by Saagar Kale.

The Lift Boy is a slice of a life film which is a perfect watch over the weekend. As Augusti ln told me before the film, “It is never about a destination, it is always about a journey.” The Lift Boy is a beautiful, engaging, entertaining journey indeed. Don’t miss it.

The Dark Side Of Life- Mumbai City Film Review

22 Days Review By Our Critic

Film : 22 Days

Banner: QatreBornes Film

Production, D S Film Entertainment

Producer: Adhir S. Gunness

Director: Shiivam Tiwari

Music: Parivesh Singh

The Story

Mauritian tycoon Vishal Shivratan (Shiivam Tiwari) is aiming for the top slot and joins hands with Omitino Zaprio (Rahul Dev). Vishal’s wife aditi (Kritika Mishra) is a doting wife. Aditi’s best friend Jenny (Sophia Singh) seduces Vishal. Vishal’s business thrives and he finally replaces Omtino as the top gun. But Vishal faces bankruptcy after being cheated. By now, Aditi has filed for a divorce. Vishal’s loyal secretary Sonal (Kriti Chaudhary) finally saves him.

The film has been tailor made to showcase the talent out of Shivam Tiwari, both as an actor and also as director. Performancewise, Shivam Tiwari takes the cake. Next best is Rahul Dev. Kritika Mishra and Sophia Singh add the glamour appeal and are also good in their respective roles. Rajkumar Kanojia and Hemant Pandey are good. The rest are adequate. The film’s music is the biggest pluspoint. All songs have been tuned very well and also picturised with painstaking effort. The three best songs are ‘Elahi’, rendered by Palak Mucchal, filmed on Vishal and Aditi, second best being ‘Black Magic’, filmed on Aditya Narayan who also has taken part on the song, third being ‘Mehfooz’, rendered by Ankit Tiwari. The other two songs ‘Khaali Sa Hoon’ and ‘Madhoshiyaan’, are also very enjoyable. The director explores the natural beauty of Mauritius. Camerawork (Kamal Chaurasia, Arvind Singh) is outstanding. Editing (Nagendra Yadav) is crisp. Production and technical values are of high standard. The publicity was very good with aggressive marketing and promotion.

Banner: Bajarang Balaji Films Production

Producer: Gundappa Suresh Devkar

Director: Raju Sansare

Music: Anuradha-Akshay, M. Deepak

The film depicts the love story of Surya( Suryakant Devkar) and Mehrunisa( Riddhi Ghodke) who meet in unusual circumstances and fall in love . But the society does not allow their love to blossom. How the two lovers meet again and renunite is told in the climax.

The film has been written well by Gundappa Suresh Devkar and also the dialogue are meaningful in many places. The songs are melodious and are the main stay of the film. The film has the ususal romance, conflicts of elders and the youth, comedy, action and a dose of horror too to please the masses more than the classes. Direction by Raju Sansare is good. Musically,( Anirudha-Akshay and M. Deepak) earpleasing although the songs haven’t been promoted well. Performancewise. Suryakant Devkar does very well. Riddhi Ghodke exudes glamour in every frame and is very promising. Kadambari Bankar and Raju Sansare are fair. Production and technical values are good. The publicity was fair.

At the box-office, the film is meant for smaller centres only.

Candid Review of Hari Mehrotra’s ambitious film VIRAAM

Producers: Hari Mehrotra.. Director: Ziaullah Khan..Music: Siddhant Madhav

Banner: M Media Magic

An ageing widower businessman Abhiraj Malhotra ( Narendra Jha )  is seeking to fulfil his departed wife’s last wish of building a multi-speciality hospital in Dehradun.  Abhiraj’s chance encounter with a young, seemingly destitute runaway woman Mahtun (Urmila Mahanta) from Purulia, Orissa, who Abhiraj promptly hires as his servant. Mahtun also makes delicious food for Abhiraj and finally loves him too and reaches his bedroom. They make love but Abhiraj  feels guilty about it . Mahtun now  wants their relationship to be out in the open. What happens later forms the crux of the story.

The film’s script(Abdullah Khn) has been written in the style of the eighties and the dialogue also appears to have heard in umpteen family dramas of the past as they are  being re-served in a modern-day context and it feels distinctly unpleasant. The climax is a letdown once Abhiraj is shown dead and also the film shows Mahtun in a bad shade which may not be digested by many. Performancesie, Narendra Jha is very good. Urmila Mahanta acts brilliantly and she needs bigger makers to prove her talent. Annapurna Bhairi is good as Laxmi , the caretaker of Abhiraj. Zaid Shaikh,Satish Sharma,Sanjay Verma and Tripurari Yadav lend good support. Musically, singer Tripty Sinha has lent two very good numbers, one being a devotional while the other a romantic one and also they are equally well written by Azeem Shirazi. Camerawork( Jojny Laal) is heavenly and Dehradun  locales never looked so beautiful till date. Also the glimpses of Mussourie and Hrishikesh are enchanting. Editing( Ashish Gaikar) is crisp. Production and technical values are good. The publiicty was good.

At the box-office, the film has merits for the ladies  specially and it may be patronised in select cinemas of U.P. mainly where the film has been shot while business in other territories will make the investors happy..!

Review : Jigar Is Neat & Clean Entertaining Film For Masses

MAFIA BIGG BOSS  : Film Review

Banner: Studio DG 9 Productions

Producer-director: Dilip Gulati

Music: Bappi Lahiri

The film  depicts the story of all the Dons who ruled from Mumbai from 1960 to 1990. Don Abdullah( Dilip Gulati) is trying his best to keep the two gangs of Dons, one led by tabrez(Sagar Pandey) and the other by  Baadshah (Raj Sagar). Many other dons also come to meet Don Abdullah to get their share of the profits which he manages to convince them that if they fought among themselves the business will be destroyed and nobody will prosper. But the two main dons Tabrez and Baadshah are always at loggerheads and  most of the dons get killed in gang rivalry. Don Baadshah leaves to Dubai in 1986 and he becomes the Mafia Big Boss.

The film deals with the lives of these Dons who show their power to their rivals and how they manipulate their business of smuggling of Gold, Silver, drugs, weapons, extortion etc. and their life styles. Writer-producer-director Dilip Gulati himself plays the role of Don Abdullah and his character has been inspired by the Don who came from Gujarat and ruled in his own way in spite of the Mumbai dons having heir own clout. There are references of Dubai and other places where the Dons have managed to exploit their working pattern and also how the Dons have helped the Police by destroying themselves killing each other which makes the film’s message very clear that crime never pays.Dilip Gulati has written the screenplay himself and has researched the lives of Dons very well. How the Dons talk, how they walk and how they treat the women has been depicted in a natural way.The dialogue spoken by the Dons is also inspired by the true ways of the Dons speaking with their people and their love for women and how the women manipulate the Dons is also shown in few scenes.

The censors have liberally passed a few scenes of women dancing in skimpy clothes and also hiding the pistols in their undergarments which will be liked by the masses. Performances by Raj Chauhan and Sagar Pandey as the main Dons are praiseworthy. Dilip Gulati has also given a seasoned performance and as Don Abdullah, he manages to make a bigger impact than the other Dons as he plays the peacemaker rather than being a rival or an enemy to other Dons. The girls Archana,Moon Moon Guha and Tania Talwani do well in item numbers. The best song of the film is the Bappi Lahiri rendered Bhai, Mumbai Ka Bhai and one Rajasthani folk dance number which is very catchy. The songs give relief to the film which is full of tense-ridden moments. Camerawork (Hemant).Action (Mohd. Bhai) and editing (Dilip Gulati) are upto the mark. The publiicty was fair.

At the box-office, MAFIA BIGG BOSS will attract the mass audiences and will score mainly in B and C centres. .

HYENA Released By Hyder Gola Of Aries Films – Films Review

N.K.G. Productions’ HYENA (Hindi) is a rape and revenge story of a sexy model Nehaa (Priyanka Vishu) who lands up in a posh locality which also has a swimming pool. The film is a showcase of promoting Priyanka Vishu in a big way and it succeeds. The film’s plot is reminiscent of too many old films with the same theme and has been handled very well by director Sumit  Roy King. Most of the actors are from Telugu screen and the film’s Telugu version is expected to do very well. Performancewise, Priyanka Vishu tops and she reminds of Ramya Krishna in almost every frame and she acts very well too. Her bikini scenes and the swimming pool scenes are lengthy while her bathing scenes have been filmed to titillate the masses. The drama sould have been much better. The music is ordinary. The climax is as usual with Priyanka killing the four vilains in a dreadful manner. The villain who is killed with the lamp post, shoved from behind is the best killing scene of the film. Production and technical values are good. Camerawork( Veena C. Anand) is very good.  Editing is good.

On the whole , a film for the masses to be enjoyed and will fetch some shares from the B and C centres. Opened on 20th January in over 50 cinemas of Mumbai territory with Alankar,Mumbai being the main theatre with four shows daily.

The film’s first look was held on 5th October at Aishwarya Hall, Oshiwara, Mumbai which was attended by leading media personnells, distributers and marketing consultants who appreciated it. The film ( whose revised version was passed by censors in Mumbai with A certificate ) is being produced by Naresh Gupta (who has produced four Telugu films already and all have been released) and is written and directed by Sumit Roy King. Priyanka Vishu , a leading model who has acted in few South films is introduced in the female lead in this film.  DoP: Veena C.Anand. Editor: P. Srinivas.

Who are three Chapekar Brothers, What contribution they had in History of Independence. Well to begin with Three Chapekar brothers from Town PUNE wanted to join Army to do something for country , But because of their Brahmin by Birth – They are told not to join and do Bhajans.
Then Chapekar brothers meet an well known Scholar Bal Gangadhar Tilak (Govind Namdev) who motivates them that not to join British force, instead make your own army and do something for your country.
Also, That time Pune was suffering from unusual  disease called Plague which Britishers took advantage of harassing them.

On seeng these Chapekar brothers decided to stop this and they killed British Deak Mr Diang , and so because of two scoundrels (Who being Indian gave news of Chapekar brothers hiding ) they got arrested. rest well History tells.

Obviously when History contradicts, It’s bit obvious that we can change the system, Characters have to well designed as if we watching Year 1899.

Govind Namdev has given million dollar performance.
Abhijit Bhagat excells in his role.  All other artiste have done full justice to their respective roles. Dialogue good at places. Editing sharp. Photography good.

Shortcut Safari– Shortcut to Learning

Shortcut Safari– Shortcut to Learning

2.5 stars

Recently released movie,”Shortcut Safaari – Nature ki Pathshala”, where seven urban kids who get stuck in dense forest – far away from their homes and families during their school outing. The movie can be framed as an attempt to reconnect us with our roots – nature – which they have achieved considerably.

Shortcut Safaari is directed by Amitabha Singh and Produced by Amitabha Singh, Kashyap A Shah and Amigos Fin-o-tainment under the banners of Xebec Films Pvt. Ltd., Amigos Fin-o-tainment. The main theme of the movie is “Nature Conservation/ Environment” along with this it also touches upon the pillars of “cleanliness” and “gender parity”. In fact, it is for the first-time ever that, an Indian director has made a movie associated with nature and kids as its main theme, which is definitely a need of the hour.

Shortcut Safari (8)

The film is entertaining as well as informative. In the movie kids are depicted as “enjoying” the time spent alone in the forest, because they were experiencing nature for the first time.

The movie revolves around seven kids – baby ‘Tara’; big bully ‘Ankur’; smarty ‘Krituporno’; fashionable ‘Hiya’; brave ‘Rahul’; careful ‘Samir’ and wise ‘Shinjini’ – who end up in an car accident and get stranded in the middle of a thick forest. The car driver seeks out to get some help and leaves the children stranded in the middle of the forest. All the children spend their first night inside the broken car but the next day starts to wander inside the forest. This starts a new journey in the life of these seven kids and their involvement with nature.

The cinematography has been completed by Mrinal Desai, who has successfully transferred the forest into life. However, the “poachers” who were deployed to bring comedy in the movie, fail miserably at it. But that seems to be covered by Jimmy Shergill’s entrance as a tribe leader in a pivotal role.

“Shortcut Safaari” comes with an entertaining story of exploration and adventure through the eyes of these children. Who, in turn, gain values on mutual respect, team spirit and perseverance on one hand; and the vital relevance of a sustainable environment with a balanced wildlife on the other. Not a perfect film, it is full of imperfections and slightly flawed storyline. But, overall a good attempt. We need cinema like this to connect with kids at a personal level.

Star Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Johnny Lever, Varun Sharma, Boman Irani, Sanjay Mishra

What’s Good: Dilwale may prove to be an effortless entertainer for those who go without any expectations from it. The film never promised to be a cerebral pleaser hence, if you go with the flow, you may even enjoy it. It shifts gears between action, romance and comedy and guess what all three have in common? Cars!

What’s Bad:  Bringing back the most-loved Jodi of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol together, the film does not accomplish in capturing their epic romance. The comic capers start to fall apart soon thanks to their repetitive flavor.

First Half Would Be A Good Time!

Watch or Not?: For those who love to sit back and enjoy movies, this one could entertain you. I couldn’t thoroughly enjoy the film because of its highly predictable storyline. Although for all Rohit Shetty fans, this is another out and out commercial film that they would enjoy.
The story revolves around Meera (Kajol) and Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) who belong to two Mafia families having conflicts. Operating in Bulgaria, both Meera and Raj meet in a chance encounter that soon leads to them falling in love. The duo then go on a date that is corny enough, consisting of flowers, ice-creams, dinner and a dance. But, then there is a major twist heading our way.

Just when you think love is in the air, guns are fired, blood is flown and soon the two lovers are forced to find separate ways. Strangely, both Meera and Raj have younger siblings who are oblivious of their pasts. Veer (Varun Dhawan) is Raj’s charming younger brother where as Ishita (Kriti Sanon) is Kajol’s younger sister.
Photography and foreign locals are beautifully picturised. Couple of songs are very good. Editing is brisk . Rohit  Shetty once again comes out with flaying colours.

15 years later, the ‘adhoori kahaani’ of Raj and Meera comes back to haunt them when their siblings Veer and Ishita fall in love with each other as they now stay in the same town.
Raj after leaving his mafia business is now a car re-model and garage guy where as Meera owns a shack in Goa. (Yeah! A little far fetched how both move all the way from Bulgaria to Goa!)
Will Raj and Meera get over their past for their siblings? Will they rekindle their love as well is what the film further unfolds.
On the whole this film will defiantly make every one happy as far as financial aspects are concerned.
